A few months ago, my lovely wife changed the way she ate. According the her, she was feeling lethargic and tired and wanted a change that would help her body feel better overall. She researched some diets, and eating tips and settled on switching over to a Paleo lifestyle. We’re very careful not to call it a diet, because JP believes that this isn’t a diet or a fad – it’s changing a way of life for her. Now, as someone that has not switched over to the Paleo lifestyle – it is interesting to live with this change and to merge the two ways that both of us eat.
Paleo eating goes back to the roots of the way human being ate in the caveman era – eating food that was hunted or picked off of a tree. The elimination of processed junk, dairy (um, that’s man made) and unnecessary carbs and sugars. Things you can’t eat? Bread, dairy, sugar, processed foods, and beans to name a few. Things you can eat? Meat (any and all kind), fruits, veggies, and … pancakes, meatloaf, muffins … wait. What? Yup. You can still eat some of your favorite types of foods and treats but with some tweaks in the ingredients and how they are prepared.
The interesting thing with both of us is that she makes our dinner. It’s good for her because she can make what she needs to eat for Paleo and then tweaks little things here and there to accommodate my non-Paleo lifestyle. Most of the things she has made are really good though – we’ve only had one fail in the form of Chicken Ala King that we both hated. Some of the best recipes she’s made so far? Lemon raspberry pancakes, German apple cake muffins, and one of our new go-to’s Buffalo Chicken wraps.
One of the things she enjoys about Paleo is that there is no calorie counting, and that you can eat as much food as you like. With the way it’s set up – you get full fast and you’re not inhibited or tricked by chemicals or sugar in processed food. What she hates about it? The constant prep. You have to make most or all of your food – especially if you’re baking. So that means dirty dishes and no grab and go meals. Are you interested in learning more about Paleo or eating recipes that are healthy for you and your family? Awesome. Me too. So – I’m excited to announce: JP’s Paleo Corner! From time to time, if JP finds and awesome recipe that tastes yum yum yum in real life – we’ll share with you the step by step process of how to make it! Look for our first recipe next week!
